Your Medical Bill Is Probably Wrong

80 % Have Mistakes

Only 1 in 5 Patients Check Them and They Get Results

Eighty percent of medical bills contain errors, according to Medical Billing Advocates of America, a group that does nothing but review medical bills.¹

Yet only about one in five patients take the time to check their bills carefully.²

In an Equifax audit of medical bills over $10,000, the average error was $1,300 — and many patients never even realize it.³

Even when insurance covers most of it, those mistakes still come back to us as consumers. And patients who do question their bills very often get corrections, discounts, or other relief. ⁴

Nobody agrees with the exact error rate. That range — 49 to 80 percent — tells you something. The system is complicated enough that even the people studying it can’t pin down a number.
